Situation
Situation
After installing 8MB,
16MB, 32MB, or 64MB memory in any one of the DIMM slots, the printer will power
on with an error message: 53.1x.03. The 搙?will correspond to the
DIMM slot containing the additional memory DIMM. The issue is caused by
the on-board EDO RAM memory ?located on the formatter board ?manufactured
by Micron. At this time the error has only occurred with EDO memory with
the date code 0012. There is a
timing issue with one of the components in the EDO memory that is magnified when
additional memory is installed in the printer. At this time it is believed
that there is only a small percentage of the Micron EDO RAM with the 0012
date code ?no more than 3% - that will fail in this manner when additional
memory DIMMs are installed.
Solution
The
error message generated in this situation indicates that the memory DIMM is the
cause of the failure, but replacing the
DIMM will not resolve the problem. First, verify that the formatter is
a potential cause of the error. This can be done by checking the EDO RAM
and verifying the manufacturer as Micron and date code as 0012. The
location of the memory in question is U26 and U28. To resolve the issue,
replace the formatter board.
